I find furniture making very relaxing from design to finishing. I use only quality hard and softwoods and mill my own lumber. For commission pieces I work closely with the client to make sure that the piece will be not only aesthetically pleasing but fit their functional needs. I also keep the clients involved in the whole process by sending them step-by-step pictures of the construction. They really appreciate this, and many have said that they never realized how intricate, detailed, and labor-intensive furniture making can be. It gives them an appreciation of what handcrafted really means.
I run a single craftsman shop, so my production output is limited. This allows me to devote more time and energy to design and construction. I enjoy being challenged by the different Arts and Crafts styles and feel a great sense of accomplishment when I finish a piece. Then it’s time to move on to the next one. For me, it’s all about the “process”.
